FHP boiler and hot-water system installation

Boiler replacement

Upgrade the boiler — and make sure the system suits the home.

FHP works with a wide range of boiler manufacturers. The aim is not to force every home into the same boiler type, but to match the new boiler and hot-water arrangement to the property and the way the household uses it.

Replacement boilers
Replace an older or unreliable boiler with a modern unit suited to the property.
Boiler upgrades & conversions
Discuss changing between combi, system and heat-only arrangements where the property and existing system make that sensible.
Heating controls
Controls and the way the system is operated can be reviewed as part of the installation.
Existing system condition
Radiators, pipework, circulation and system cleanliness can be considered before the new boiler is fitted.

Boiler types

Combi, system or heat-only?

Each type has advantages. FHP can talk through the options around the property, available space, water pressure and how many bathrooms or hot-water outlets are likely to be used at the same time.

🔥

Combi boiler

Heating and hot water from one boiler, without a separate hot-water cylinder.

  • Compact and space-saving.
  • Hot water is produced on demand.
  • No stored hot-water cylinder is normally required.
  • Often a good option for smaller homes and simpler hot-water demand.

Performance depends on the incoming mains supply and simultaneous hot-water demand.

🚿

System boiler

Works with a separate hot-water cylinder to provide stored hot water.

  • Well suited to homes with more than one bathroom.
  • Stored hot water can better support several outlets being used around the same time.
  • Usually avoids the traditional feed-and-expansion tanks associated with older open-vent systems.
  • Can work particularly well with an unvented cylinder where the mains supply is suitable.
🏠

Heat-only boiler

Also called a regular or conventional boiler, normally used with a separate hot-water cylinder.

  • Can be a sensible replacement where a traditional heating system is already in place.
  • Useful in some larger or older properties with existing cylinders and tanks.
  • Stored hot water can serve several outlets.
  • May allow more of an existing system layout to be retained.

Hot-water upgrades

Boiler and cylinder upgrades can be planned together.

Where the home needs stronger stored hot-water performance, FHP can also discuss system-boiler and cylinder arrangements, including unvented hot-water systems.

Higher hot-water demand
Stored hot water may suit homes where several showers, baths or taps are used close together.
Unvented cylinders
FHP also works with unvented hot-water systems. See the dedicated page for the main benefits.
Whole-system thinking
Boiler type, cylinder size, controls and existing pipework all affect the finished result.

Questions

Boiler installation FAQs

Does FHP only install one boiler manufacturer?

No. FHP works with a range of manufacturers and can discuss suitable options around the property, system requirements, budget and availability.

Can I change from a heat-only or system boiler to a combi?

Sometimes. Whether a conversion makes sense depends on the property, hot-water demand, mains water performance and existing pipework. FHP can assess the current setup before recommending a change.

When is a system boiler useful?

A system boiler with stored hot water can be useful where the home has higher hot-water demand or more than one bathroom.

What if my existing boiler can be repaired?

FHP also carries out boiler fault-finding, repairs and servicing, so replacement is not the only option.

Thinking about a new boiler?

Talk through the whole system before choosing the boiler.

Send the postcode, current boiler details and a short description of what you want to improve.
